About this tour

The Dhofar region is the only place in the Arabian Peninsula to experience the monsoons. Khareef takes place between June and early September, making this area a perfect summer destination.
During these four days in Salalah, you can experience all aspects of the Dhofar region. In Salalah City, you will learn about the culture and history of the southern Oman and with a full-day excursion to the east and west of Salalah, you can explore the most stunning natural sites of the region, from wadis to waterfalls. And finally, you’ll lose yourself in the immensity of the Empty Quarter, the “desert of deserts.

Itinerary

Day 1: Salalah City Half Day Tour

Upon arrival in Salalah, your guide will pick you up from Salalah International Airport and drive you to the hotel for check-in. After refreshing, you will start a half-day tour of Salalah. This city of southern Oman offers a truely different atmosphere which you can experience during this tour.

First, visit the sublime Sultan Qaboos Mosque. Visitors must dress modestly, and women must cover their hair with a scarf. To learn more about the region's history and the importance of the Frankincense trade, visit the Museum of the Frankincense Land and Al Baleed Archeological Museum.

Then, right inside the city, you can explore the Plantation Farms with bananas, Papayas, and other exotic fruits. Enjoy some fresh coconut milk before heading towards the traditional market of Al Husn, also called Haffa Souk. This is the best place to buy all kinds of Frankincense. Return to your hotel to relax by the beach for the end of the day.

Day 2: East & West Salalah

Today you will have a full-day tour of the must-see places of Salalah, from east to west! As you drive towards the east, stop by the Royal Farm and the Marmura Palace. The Sultan himself used to live there during warmer months as summer house. Although visiting them is not possible,  they are prefect for a nice photo stop.

After a short drive, you'll arrive at Taqah and enter the historical lands of Salalah. Taqah Castle was built during the 19th century and it stands out from all other forts and castles of Oman: It has been the private residence of the region's tribal leaders. After visiting the interior of the court go to Sumhuram Archeological Park. It contains the remains of Khor Rori, which once has been one of the most important ports of the world. After a half an hour-visit, it's time to explore the natural wonders nearby Wadi Darbat. With its river and excellent beaches, Wadi Darbat offers a relaxing place for a break. After visiting the Wadi, continue to the coastal town of Mirbat to visit the Mausoleum of Bin Ali.

Finally, end your day with some natural splendors.
First, visit Ayn Razat, one the most impressive springs of Dhofar. Then drive for an hour  to reach the sea and enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches of Dhofar, Al Mughsail. Walk on the wild coast its surprising blowholes.

Finally, drive to the Zig Zag Road, an incredible road in which you can observe several sorts of Frankincense trees. By the end of the day,  get back to the hotel for a well-deserved rest.

Day 3: Rub al Khali

Today, immerse yourself in the immensity of Rub al Khali, which translates to Empty Quarter in Omani language. It is one of the largest deserts of the world. Leave Salalah in the morning and drive towards the desert.

While there, you'll find Wadi Dowkha with its tree farms. Drive for an hour and a half to get to the desert village of Shisr. There you will find the ruins of the lost city of Ubar, also known as the "Atlantis of the Sands." Visit the ruins before going deeper into the Empty Quarter for exploring the desert. By the end of the day, go back to Salalah.

Day 4: Departure Day

Enjoy the morning on your own and relax at the hotel. After check-out, a private transfer will take you  to Salalah International Airport for your departure flight.

  • The remaining balance needs to be totally paid two weeks prior to your arrival date.
  • If your arrival date is within the next 14 days, the total amount needs to be paid in advance in order to secure the package.
  • Free cancellation for up to two weeks before your arrival date.
  • 30% cancellation penalty if you cancel within 14-5 days before your arrival date.
  • Non-refundable if you cancel when it's less than five days left until your arrival date.

As of March 21st, 2018, e-Visa has been the only available option to enter the Sultanate of Oman for tourism purposes. The embassies no longer issue the “classic” visa in order to reduce waiting times at the embassies and airports. Since December 2020, around 100 nationalities have been exempt from visa requirements for stays of up to 14 days.

The Omani e-Visa requires entry into the country within six months of the issue date.

With a valid visa to Dubai, you can enter the Sultanate of Oman without needing any additional visas and you can stay for up to three weeks. Eligible countries: Portugal, Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy, UK, Sweden, Greece, Austria, Ireland, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Belgium, Norway, Netherlands, Denmark, South Korea, Japan, Brunei, Malaysia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Luxembourg, Vatican, Monaco, Andorra, San Marino.

The e-Visa allows one or more entries with up to 30 days of stay in Oman. In some cases, the duration of stay can be extended. Once your e-Visa is issued, you'll have six months to arrive in Oman.

Generally, e-Visas for Oman are issued within 72 hours from the time you submit your documents. This time frame is only an estimation and not something we can guarantee, as the process depends on the Sultanate’s administrative services.
